Peloton Shoe Sizing: Size Chart, Fit, Are They True to Size

5 Min Read

Having the right size Peloton shoes will make the difference between a comfortable spin and a painful session. Too tight and the shoes can cause rubbing, blisters and even lack of circulation. Too loose and they won’t offer the support or stability required for a proper workout.

How Should Peloton Shoes Fit?

As a general rule, any cycling shoe should fit the same as a running shoe. You want them to be snug but comfortable. They need to be supportive without being constricting. When trying Peloton shoes on, make sure you can wiggle your toes without them rubbing on the toebox.

A Peloton bike shoe that’s too tight can cause rubbing which leads to blisters. It’s also common to experience cramping, tingling and numbness if your cycling shoes are too tight.

Morton’s Neuroma is a common problem for cyclists whose shoes are too tight. The constriction of nerves in your feet can cause tissue near your toes to thicken. It feels like standing on a sharp pebble or stone with every step.

You also want to ensure your feet are not sliding back and forth in the shoes as you cycle. This can lead to blisters and instability on the bike.

Be aware that a cycling shoe has a much stiffer sole than other types of shoe. This is so you don’t waste energy bending the shoe while cycling. Instead, all the power is transferred to the pedal stroke. While this is super beneficial for riding, it can make the shoes feel very alien for first-time users.

As with all footwear, your Peloton cycling shoes will slowly mould to your feet over time. This means they’re likely to become more comfortable the more you sue them.

However, if they’re causing you pain – rather than discomfort – you should check to see if they’re too tight and try a larger pair. If the problem persists, visit a podiatrist or other medical professional to talk about insoles and other solutions.

Are Peloton Shoes True To Size?

Peloton shoes generally run true to size. However, they’re quite narrow. If you have wide feet, we suggest going up a size. If this still doesn’t work, it’s worth looking at alternatives to Peloton cycling shoes.

If your shoe size lands between two sizes, we also recommend sizing up with Peloton shoes as they don’t stretch much over their lifetime. Besides, your feet can swell while riding – you’ll need to account for this when trying on the shoes.

3

Women's Peloton Shoe Size

Peloton shoes for women are available in US sizes 5-12 (EU sizes 36-43). There are no half sizes available. If you fall into a half size, we recommend sizing up. This ensures your feet aren’t too constricted by the shoes and gives them room to swell as you work out.

Women’s Peloton shoes are slightly narrower than men’s. This is because, on average, women tend to have slimmer feet than men. However, if you’re a woman with wide feet, it’s worth trying on the men’s version in your size too. You may find it fits much more comfortably.

4

Men's Peloton Shoe Size

Peloton shoes for men go from US size 7-13.5. They also have a couple of half sizes that aren’t seen in the women’s models. Namely, 10.5 and 13.5. This means men with a shoe size around 10 or 13 have extra options to ensure maximum comfort while spinning.

Men’s shoes are generally wider than women’s to accommodate for wider average foot size. If you’re male with very narrow feet, it’s worth trying on women’s Peloton shoes before making your purchase.

5

Kid's Peloton Shoe Size

When it comes to choosing Peloton shoes for your child, we advise going down half a size (if possible). You can use the women’s size chart for both girls and boys until they reach adult sizes.

6

Do You Really Need Peloton Shoes?

You can use your Peloton spin bike with any number of Peloton compatible shoes.

Any cycling shoes that clip into Look Delta or SPD-SL pedals will work perfectly with your Peloton exercise bike.
It’s also possible to change the pedals on your Peloton. This allows you to choose which type of cleat and clips to use. Many seasoned Peloton veterans replace their Peloton pedals with SPD pedals, giving them access to a great range of cycling shoes.

It’s also possible to use regular shoes with your Peloton. To do this, you need to install toe cages or straps to your pedals. These are both available through Peloton’s website but come at an extra cost. They allow you to clip into the pedals without needing special cleats on the bottom of your shoes. However, they’re not as efficient as using proper cycling shoes.

7

How Often Should You Replace Your Peloton Shoes?

If you only use your Peloton shoes at home or in spin classes, they’re likely to last years. As long as they’re not broken, you shouldn’t need to think about replacing them until they’re at least three years old.

Due to their stiff, hard sole and snug fit, you won’t be walking anywhere in your Peloton shoes. This means the sole receives far less abuse than normal shoes and is very unlikely to fail.

With Peloton shoes, the most likely place to see extreme wear is around the cleats. However, it should take a few years of regular use before this becomes noticeable. You may also notice the insole starting to wear out if you sweat a lot while cycling. This can be easily replaced.

If you use your Peloton cycling shoes for all your biking activities, including as a road cycling shoe, they won’t last quite as long. Even a very small amount of walking on tarmac or stones will begin to wear the sole. You’re also likely to notice the upper wearing out faster because it’s being exposed to the elements.

You should also be sure to look after the Velcro straps and buckle when taking the shoes on and off. If not treated correctly these can fail and are impossible to replace.

Overall, Peloton shoes should last at least three years if worn solely indoors. If worn for outdoor rides, Peloton cycling shoes should last at least two years but they have been known to last much longer if looked after.

Peloton Shoes Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are peloton shoe sizes?

Peloton shoe sizes tend to be very accurate and close to your normal shoe size. Unless you have particularly wide, narrow or unusually shaped feet, Peloton shoes should be suitable for you.

Should I size up in peloton shoes?

Sometimes.

If possible, you should opt for your normal size in Pelton cycling shoes. However, if you have wider feet, we suggest sizing up to ensure you get the most comfortable fit.

Are Peloton shoes the same as cycling shoes?

Peloton shoes are very similar, if not the same, as most other cycling shoes. They feature a stiff sole, cleats and a breathable upper. The closure system is a combination of velcro and buckles to ensure the shoes deliver maximum stability while cycling.

The main difference between Peloton shoes and other cycling shoes is the cleats themselves. Peloton shoe cleats are only compatible with Look Delta pedals. They won’t work with SPD, or other two-hole pedals.

Should my toes touch the end of my Peloton shoes?

No.

If your toes touch the end of cycling shoes, it’s a sure sign that your shoes are too small. You should replace these shoes as soon as possible. Otherwise, you’re risking discomfort, numbness, tingling and long term injury.

Good To Know About Peloton Shoes

  • Peloton shoes tend to run a little narrow
  • Peloton shoes are generally true to size
  • Peloton shoes have a very stiff sole which can be uncomfortable for new users – it makes cycling more efficient
  • Peloton shoes come with cleats so you can easily clip them into your pedals – this makes riding easier because you can pull the pedal with every upstroke as well as push it on the downstroke

Final Thoughts On Peloton Shoe Sizing

Peloton shoes run true to size but tend to be on the narrow side of things. For beginners, the stiff sole, which is common in all cycling shoes, can take some getting used to. Don’t worry if the shoes aren’t super comfortable straight away.

Your Peloton shoes should feel snug without being restricting. Wearing cycling shoes that are too loose, or too tight, can cause some real long term issues that can affect your overall fitness rather than just your feet.

Our sizing chart converts the US and European size of Peloton shoes to ensure you’re as informed as possible when choosing your shoes. If you fall between sizes, we recommend sizing up but if you’re in doubt, visit a cycling store and ask them to professionally measure your feet.
