Our Score
General Impression
Our testers concluded that the Asics Gel Kayano 27 is built for long-term wear. Even after many runs at varying speeds, they show little wear.
This model from ASICS is an excellent training and competition shoe for overpronators and heavy lifters. No matter how fast or how far you run in these sneakers, you’ll feel secure.
What makes it extra special is the Flytefoam, which is a midsole foam that is extremely lightweight.
The foam has a lot of energy return, which makes it strong and gives it a dynamic bounce without taking away from its comfort.

Asics Gel Kayano 27 Review
Since 1993, the Kayano series has been one of the best-selling. Comfort and support are the key to its success, making running in this model both soft and stable.
The ASICS GEL Kayano 27 delivers consistent comfort and endless amortization over any distance. It’s ideal for runners with low and flat arches.
It is thanks to the ASICS company that we no longer have to deal with an unnecessarily wide last. Two separate features are seen in the Gel-Kayano 27: one in the heel and one in the forefoot.
The Dynamic Duomax and Trusstic arch support systems, as well as the MetaClutch heel exoskeleton system, all have stabilizing elements in the heel. They all work together to keep the stride stable and steady.
Design
The design of the forefoot is lighter. This shoe’s midsole is made out of Gel cushioning and Flytefoam Propel (Lower density foam).
The model’s comfort level hasn’t changed, and it’s even gotten a little softer. The same high level of stability prevails. More air can now flow through the top of the ventilation system, making it more comfortable to wear. In addition, the model conforms to the flagship tradition.
Decide where and how often you intend to run before deciding on a pair of running shoes. Asphalt running shoes and trail running shoes are the two most common types of running shoes, and under each of those are subcategories such as racing, speed training, long distance, and recovery.
Running shoes can have a greater impact and comfort on a runner’s performance and enjoyment if they are chosen correctly.
Features
Run more comfortably with ASICS shoes, which feature cutting-edge technology.
In order of importance:
- Almost every pair of ASICS running shoes features a layer of gel in the heel area. Shock absorption reduces the strain on the body when landing.
- Trusstic is a rigid molded midsole part. Under the arch of the foot, there is a plate that stabilizes the shoe and prevents it from twisting.
- This shoe features durable and long-lasting Ahar inserts in the soles.
- Inside the midsole of shoes with pronation support, you’ll find a layer of foam called “Duomax.” It corrects foot posture and prevents pronation, which helps heavy runners.
- The GuideSole is a rollover structure that inhibits ankle movement.
ASICS Gel Kayano 27 Upper Unit
The upper of the Kayano has changed slightly. The innovative, developed mesh is both beautiful and functional.
The mesh lets your feet move freely while retaining structure. It’s breathable, keeping your feet cool when running during the summer.
The upper, like the sole, is made from long-lasting materials that can withstand a lot of wear and tear.
The 26s’ precise fit carries over to the 27s to a certain degree. The midfoot and toe box seemed a little constrictive.
The MetaClutch exoskeleton heel system returns in the 27s. The upper’s heel section is a strength because of the fit and stability it provides.
The exoskeleton heel counter and padded heel collar grip your foot while running, adding stability. This fit complements the midsole stabilization systems.
You won’t feel any discomfort because the upper is perfectly smooth. They run true to size and aren’t as wide as the previous edition.
ASICS Gel Kayano 27 Sole Unit
The sole is packed with technologies that work for your comfort and stable movement. Under the Eva insole, spEVA 45, FlyteFoam Lyte, and FlyteFoam Propel complement each other.
The materials used are extremely durable and provide grip in both wet and dry weather. After a hundred miles, the outsole showed only a small degree of wear.
Dynamic Duomax technology helps hyperpronation by supporting the foot and bringing it into the flattest plane.
This is a dual-density midsole system, similar to a medial post. In the front, it extends from where the external heel counter begins down to the arch’s front edge.
The wide Trusstic insert is also made to make running feel more stable and give you more confidence.
A Gel is located in the toe and heel parts of the sole – a special type of silicone that reduces the load on the musculoskeletal system, absorbing shock while running.
The sole and lower part of the sole are equipped with flex grooves. The outsole’s extra-deep grooves increase the shoe’s suppleness and make the transition from heel or midfoot striking to toe takeoff much more seamless.
This dynamic compensates for the shoe’s comparatively high weight.
The deeper flex grooves in the outsole, especially in the forefoot, also help promote flexibility.
Together, they help you go forward more quickly.
Midsole lengthening softens cushioning while increasing flexibility, especially in the forefoot.
Performance
Seven pods of high-carbon Ahar+ rubber in the heel enhance the overall durability of the construction, while the four front sections are made of lightweight foam rubber.
IGS (Impact Guidance System) – shock distribution system, provides shock absorption and the most natural movement of the foot from landing to repulsion.
Verdict
The ASICS Gel-Kayano 27 is a durable training and competition sneaker suitable for overpronators and heavy lifters.
This is a well-balanced sneaker that provides excellent stability regardless of distance and pace.
